How to Commission a Pet Portrait

Please have a read of my step-by-step process to help guide you on you how to commission a Pet Portrait.

Step One

To produce a highly detailed drawing of your pet, I ask for good quality photographs which I will be able to work from.

You can send me your photographs by email or by message through my social media platforms. I ask for a variety of photographs as I like to get a good feel for your pet, and I like to hear stories about them to find out about their character. I find this helps so much when drawing them.

Do not worry about sending me too many photographs, I always say the more the better! If you are unsure about the photos you have, or if you are wanting to take some more, please visit my Photograph Tips Page. I find holding their favourite treat or toy can work wonders!

Step Two

Decide on the size of the portrait you would like. Think about where in your home you would like your portrait displayed as this can help with your decision.

I offer a standard background for your portrait. I will always choose colours that will complement your pet’s fur colour. If you have a particular colour in mind that you would like as a background, please let me know. If you would like a more detailed background, that is not a problem at all. We can discuss different options as to what will work well. Please note there will be an additional cost due to the level of detail and time involved.

A background colour is not necessary. I work on light blue, light grey and dark grey Pastelmat paper which all offer a great background for your portrait.

Step Three

I ask for a £50 non-refundable deposit to secure your booking, which can be made through the Shop on my website. This will ensure you are booked in my diary. The remaining balance is payable upon completion of your portrait.

I will ask if you would like to see work in progress photos of your portrait as I am drawing or if you would like to wait and see the completed portrait. I am always more than happy to make any changes to the portrait as I want to ensure you are 100% happy with the final drawing. I understand how important it is to get it right.

Please do let me know as soon as possible if the drawing is for a special occasion and you require the portrait for a certain date as I do make bookings a few months in advance.

Your Finished Portrait

Your portrait will be presented mounted in readiness for you to frame and wrapped securely. If you live within 5 miles of Farsley, I will happily hand deliver your portrait. If you live further afield, I will arrange for your portrait to be posted with Royal Mail which will be sent Special Delivery. The postage charge will be added on to the final payment and is approximately £10 for all UK orders.

For worldwide shipping, please see my Delivery page for more information.

How long does a portrait take?

Please allow up to 1 week to complete a Postcard size portrait and up to 2 weeks for A4 and A3 size portraits. All drawings can vary due to the size and complexity so please let me know at the time of booking if you need your portrait for a specific date.
